DIGITAL SCULPTURES
Digital Sculptures is a visual investigation into the transformation of material between the physical world and the digital realm. This work contemplates the notions of materiality; and how they can change as a single object moves through different media. Multiple representations of the same form are displayed alongside each other in order to reveal the various physical qualities that come in to play during the process of their creation. Although the installation consists of contrasting elements, what makes the work whole is the creative process.
Similarly to how Lynn Somers physically melts and sculpts her silver and gold, Lara Bruggeman simulates the same physical processes digitally by starting out with a single entity.
By translating these digital simulations of shapes that feel organic and tangible back into material objects, boundaries become blurred in the grey area that exists between technology and nature.
